Agouti Pest Control Wasps

Everybody at some has had an encounter with a wasp. These large, yellow and black striped buzzing insects have a sweet tooth at one end and a painful sting at the other.

They can be found in hollow trees, lofts, bushes and wall cavities with their nests usually made up of chewed wood. The need to collect wood means that wasps may damage the wooden fabric of buildings, fences and even perhaps garden furniture.

Wasps are a particular nuisance at the end of the summer when the workers are freed of the need to collect proteinaceous foods for their young and turn to sweet materials such as jam and syrup. They then cause a nuisance when they enter kitchens, bakeries and other premises handling sweet aromatic materials. Foodstuffs can be contaminated and staff will be disturbed or even stung.

It is the ability of wasps to inflict these painful stings, without provocation, that concerns most people. What’s more the venom contains a pheromone which alarms all other wasps in the area and invites them to join the attack on the victim. At worst sting symptoms can result in an anaphylactic shock reaction - respiratory distress, faintness, an itching rash, swelling of the face and vomiting with abdominal pain, cramp or diarrhoea.

Agouti pest control technicians have an environmentally friendly approach to wasp treatment, utilising the latest techniques, and wherever possible the process will be carried out humanely.
